About Nez Perce National Historical Park
For thousands of years the valleys, prairies, mountains, and plateaus of the inland northwest have been home to the Nimiipuu or Nez Perce people. Explore these places. Learn their stories. Treat them with care.
The 38 sites of Nez Perce National Historical Park are scattered across the states of Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Montana and have been designated to commemorate the stories and history of the Nimiipuu and their interaction with explorers, fur traders, missionaries, soldiers, settlers, gold miners, and farmers who moved through or into the area. Bear Paw Battlefield is open year round from dawn to dusk.
The Blaine County Museum in Chinook has exhibits and an audiovisual program on the battle at Bear Paw. In the summer the museum is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They are closed for lunch from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. For the remainder of the year, it is open on weekdays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 pm. They are closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.
